A fun, FREE group for those who love to do mixed-media and altered art. We will have some free tutorials/videos on occasion, share ideas & have some challenges. Share your work!

What is mixed media?

When you hear mixed media you may immediately get a vision of what it is. However I am hoping to expand that idea. Mixed Media is ANY art that uses more than one type of media – ink & paint, paper & fabric, collage, found objects – it is just a mixture of different items when creating your piece. It can be gothic, steampunk, bright & happy, dark and brooding, bizarre, controlled, free – it is whatever YOU make it.

That being said, you do have to know HOW to use all those different things and the best way is through experimentation. That is what we will be doing here in this group. There are so many incredible, fun products out there to use. Some of my personal favorites are from Ranger, Viva Décor, Crafters Workshop Stencils, & Golden.

**Challenges**

Your final project can be anything – an ATC for those who want to start small, a piece for a card, a journal page, a piece to hang on the wall – whatever you are comfortable with or suits what you want to do with it. Sometimes we will make background pieces, sometimes we might make something WITH one of our previous background pieces. Your final project must always use different types of media in order to qualify. New challenges will be posted on the 1st and 15th of each month and prize winners will be announced on the 1st.

Challenge #11 runs Nov 15 - Nov 30

Use circles in some way on your project.

Comment by Tracey Malnofski on November 16, 2012 at 12:20pm: Here's a project I recently finished that might work well with the circles challenge. I used Prismas, Gouache, fluid acrylics mainly. I think I used some other things, but not too much.

Comment by the PaperTemptress on October 12, 2012 at 6:00pm: Yes but you have to be somewhat gentle with the tissue paper since it can rip.....which is what happened to the blue house! REally really enjoyed this project. The sky has texture too since I spread modeling paste and let it dry. I am now starting to wish that I had put the houses in the middle but that area started out as a hill, didn't quite end up hilly LOL! Funny how that happens while progressing.

Comment by the PaperTemptress on October 12, 2012 at 4:52pm: Also all of Marti's stamps were stamped on white tissue paper and then applied to the canvas with multi medium. The white tissue paper disappears once glued, all except the sun piece. Not sure why it shows but it does show. I think this is the perfect way to add stamped images to a canvas.

I have been wanting to move closer to my family for sometime now and decided to start looking a couple of weeks ago. Well I ended up finding the PERFECT place that is 1 mile from 3 of my grandchildren and 1/2 mile from my other grandson. I am totally getting into mixed media lately and really have been wanting to use Marti's stamp so this was a perfect opportunity. I also wanted to create a design to celebrate my new house so this is what I came up with. I don't want to enter the challenge since I might win my own prize which doesn't make any sense to I am adding my design here. BTW Marti, I am sorry to have messed up the big trees so bad! Probably my favorite stamp in the set but I had stamped them to light and had to highlight them which kind of messed up the design of them but oh well LOL...here is my newest picture for my new house!
